Learn to Skydive Solo

Your solo first jump course is an investment in yourself which you will never regret. The "Accelerated Freefall Course" is the major requirement to gain your "A-licence" which is  like a licence to drive a car, recognised throughout the world. After that, you can jump for just $45 per jump plus gear hire if you have not yet purchased your own parachute.

Before your first jump, you will undergo a thorough training program. After about four hours ground training, you will then be ready to do your first jump. This is done using a tandem parachute system. Your first jump will be from 12,000 feet. Attached to your instructor, immediately after exit, you will adopt a stable freefall body position, and perform a series of altitude checks and practice pulling the ripcord. This should take about 45 seconds. When an altitude of 6500 feet is reached, you will give your instructor an altitude awareness check and deploy the parachute. (Don’t worry if you forget, the instructor has access to one of his own that will open the parachute.) The parachute will take about three seconds to open. Once open, your next task is to check the parachute and see if it is OK. Your instructor will then hand you down the steering controls. From here, you will locate the target area and steer the parachute. While all this is happening your instructor will be giving you a practical one-on-one lesson on how to steer and land the parachute. It is just like having a driving or flying lesson. Your instructor is there to give you assistance any time you need it. Together you will execute the landing of the parachute.

After we land, a full debrief of the jump is carried out. This includes a detailed written critique in your logbook, which we supply. The next phase of the course is to prepare you for your first solo jump. By now you will have a clear understanding of the principles of steering and landing a parachute and the importance of height awareness in freefall. After approximately another three hours training which will include emergency procedures and irregular landing training, you will be ready for your first solo jump, which will be carried out with two instructors in freefall to assist you. After exiting the aircraft with your two instructors, you will again carry out a series of freefall tasks, mainly practice pulls and height awareness checks.  The height at which you will wave to show your height awareness is 5,500 feet. You will then commence your pull at 5000 feet. After this is done you will thoroughly check the parachute and look for your instructors who will be open about 1000 feet beneath you. You simply follow them to the landing area and follow the landing pattern we have trained you in with a little help from your instructor who speaks to you via radio. There is also a back up system of an arrow on the ground for you to follow, should there be any problem with your radio. You canopy control procedure will be covered in detailed care throughout the course and most importantly, practised on your training tandem. The cost of all your ground training plus your first two jumps is $680. There are now eight more jumps to complete the entire “Accelerated Freefall” Course. Your instructor will also wear a helmet mounted video camera on your jumps to assist in your training.
