SpinFX 2005 at Wickham at Easter
was a complete blast and totally unforgettable for everyone who came.
Jumpers came from as far afield as Cairns, Darwin and Adelaide plus the
WA southerners. Day 1 was a warm up, with a few late arrivals drifting
in, and Wickham locals taking advantage of Marcus’ great head down
tutoring. By the end of the weekend, we saw some of our kids in three
way head downs with docks, a big achievement for a young, small club
like ours. Daily beach jumps were into Point Samson, with one into Port
Walcott, where the tourists got bowled over by the beautiful views and
conditions. (Thanks Bjorn for telling GWN news how spoilt we are.) As
the weekend got going, we saw loads of novelty jumps: boogie boards,
bananas, flour, stuffed hefalumps, and nudies. The star crests also were
coming good as the weekend progressed, and thanks to Cheryl for her
great tutoring and load organising there. There were also enough “Wings”
rigs for a “Wings-way”, plus Jonno, Cobby, Brinky and Dion trying to
make Pete have a heart attack by even attempting Mr Bills. There was one
token injury, with Alex’s dislocated shoulder –bummer about the camera
malfunction for the filming of the relocation! As for the parties, well,
maybe the less said the better! Saturday degenerated into complete
mayhem, starting off with Gonzo’s egg throwing competition. Of course
everyone just decided to pelt Gonzo with the eggs instead. From there
people started to get silly with helium, until a group ended up in the
mini bus, emptying the entire contents of a cylinder, so everyone could
talk silly together. Then there was the sexual position game, where Brad
and Jonno were ROBBED, followed by the fridge stacking (it is amazing
how many people fit on top of one fridge), and a new version of the
trust game- lots of people needed to be under that mattress for Gonzo’s
jump from the pagoda! Monday night’s party was themed “S”, with almost
everyone putting in some sort of effort, from the septic tank, to the
stubby, to the sweet potato, and yes, we really didn’t need the
streakers!
My personal highlight though was
Tuesday’s jump into Norville Bay on Rosemary Island in the Dampier
Archipelago. The day was absolutely perfect, with deserted white beaches
and azure crystal blue waters, the sights were really something special,
and what a way to finish up a boogie like that. Lunch on our “dinghy”,
the Reef Action II, made us wonder what the peasants were doing (driving
to Darwin?), and it was a great afternoon, swimming, snorkelling, and
diving with the hookah, from our recovery/dive boat, The Cutting Edge.
Thanks to the turtles, dolphins and manta rays for showing up and making
Alicia’s day! It really was a boogie with a difference, and it WILL be
on again next year! Karratha Flying Services has offered us their Twin
Otter, so watch this space…
